HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois take great pride in and express gratitude to
4 those citizens who assume great personal risk to protect the
5 lives and well-being of other citizens; and
 
6     WHEREAS, On December 26, 2003, Chicago Fire Department
7 Lieutenant Daniel Mullaney was in the fire truck enroute to
8 refuel when he spotted smoke from a fire at a low-rise CHA
9 apartment building; through his quick-thinking and selfless
10 actions, Lt. Mullaney entered the burning building not once,
11 but twice, to rescue two young girls trapped in the building;
12 and
 
13     WHEREAS, As a result of his heroism, Lt. Mullaney has been
14 honored previously; he was the 2004 recipient of the Carter
15 Harrison Award given by the City of Chicago; he is being
16 honored this month as a recipient of the Firefighting Medal of
17 Honor; and
 
18     WHEREAS, He is a 24-year veteran of the Chicago Fire
19 Department and lives in Mt. Greenwood with his wife, Kerry, and
20 their four children, Luke, Maggie, Mike, and Dan; therefore, be
21 it
 
22     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
23 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
24 we congratulate Chicago Fire Department Lt. Daniel Mullaney on
25 being awarded the Firefighting Medal of Honor, and we salute
26 the courage and valor he exhibits regularly on the job; and be
27 it further
 
28     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
29 presented to Lt. Mullaney as an expression of our respect and
30 esteem.
