HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with sadness of the passing of
4 Sergeant Daniel P. Figgins of Elgin, who died in the line of
5 duty on Saturday, April 9, 2005; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was born on March 28, 1952, in Elgin, to Paul
7 and Marilyn Figgins; he was a graduate of Larkin High School in
8 1970; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He began his career with the St. Charles Police
10 Department in 1977 as a Patrol Officer; in 1985, he received
11 training and was certified as a Tactical Officer; the following
12 year, he became certified as a Field Training Officer,
13 responsible for the training and supervision of police
14 recruits; he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1988 and
15 was certified as a Police Supervisor the same year; during his
16 27 years with the St. Charles Police Department, he received
17 over 650 hours of police, supervisory, and developmental
18 training; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Sergeant Figgins made the ultimate sacrifice in
20 the line of duty, when he succumbed to a heart attack while
21 engaged in a foot pursuit of a criminal; and
 
22     WHEREAS, As a 27-year veteran of the St. Charles police
23 force, Sergeant Figgins was well-liked by members in all levels
24 of the police organization; he had a quick wit that was often
25 times off-beat and quirky and was rarely seen without a smile
26 on his face; he had a natural sense of right and wrong and was
27 the type of supervisor that set a positive example for new and
28 seasoned officers alike; and
 
29     WHEREAS, He was a dedicated member of Christ Community
30 Church in St. Charles and shared his great joy in his spiritual

1 beliefs, but never tried to pressure anyone to adopt his
2 religious convictions; he was a wonderful, loving, and devoted
3 husband, father, son, and brother and never hesitated to brag
4 about the accomplishments of his family; and
 
5     WHEREAS, The passing of Sergeant Daniel P. Figgins has been
6 deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Linda, whom he
7 married on August 12, 1972; his daughters, Kristin (Ryan)
8 Dierking and Hillary (Jonathan) Jarvis; his father, Paul
9 Figgins; his brothers, Ted (Peggy) Figgins, Ron Figgins, Doug
10 Figgins, and Craig Figgins; his sister, Anitalynn (Ky) Katz;
11 and his many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; he was
12 preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn, on April 30, 2002;
13 therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16 together with his family, community, comrades on the police
17 force, and all who knew and loved him, we mourn the passing of
18 Sergeant Daniel P. Figgins, a selfless man, always willing to
19 give of his time to others; and be it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21 presented to his wife, Linda, as an expression of our sincerest
22 condolences for this deep loss.
