HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Petersburg Boy Scout Troop 54 participated in the
3 flag raising ceremony at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential
4 Museum dedication on April 19, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 54 of the Abraham Lincoln Council
6 was chartered in December of 1999; the troop's leader is Steve
7 Territo and the troop has 40 registered scouts who range in age
8 from fifth through eleventh grade; the following 32 scouts
9 participated in the ceremony: Ryan Barbee, Austin Bliven,
10 Justin Brooks, Dan Crain, James Daniels, James Joseph Davis,
11 Adam Devine, David Devine, Marcus Durrett, Nathaniel Ed, Matt
12 Francis, Bart Griffith, Blaine Heder, Devan Hindt, Scott
13 Kinsel, Zach Knous, DJ Rudd, Cody Schnirring, Peter Schoenherr,
14 Phillip Summers, Nick Territo, Wayne Thomas, Kevin Thomas,
15 Scott Tisdale, Cory Willhite, Mat Williams, Ryon Williams,
16 Jacob Hinton, Eli Reiser, Caleb Sorrells, Sebastian Schafer,
17 and Stephen Barbee; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Troop 54 has advanced two scouts to the rank of
19 Eagle Scout, has five scouts currently working on their Eagle
20 Scout projects, and has twelve scouts who are Order of the
21 Arrow members, the national honor society among scouts; and
 
22     WHEREAS, The troop is actively supported by 17 registered
23 adult leaders and is sponsored by the Central Presbyterian
24 Church of Petersburg and the Petersburg Rotary Club; the scouts
25 annually participate in many community activities that benefit
26 local organizations, such as Menard County Military Partners,
27 the American Red Cross, Menard County Food Pantry, and
28 providing yard care for local residents who are not able to
29 perform those tasks for themselves; and
 
30     WHEREAS, Several of the scouts have participated in a High
31 Adventure camp where they canoe the waters bordering Minnesota

1 and Canada; there are also scouts participating in the National
2 Order of the Arrow conference in Iowa and the Boy Scout
3 National Jamboree in West Virginia; the troop actively camps
4 almost year-round; they participate in polar bear camp outs,
5 The Klondike Derby in January, and each year they travel in
6 February to Wisconsin for cave camping and exploration; the
7 troop also has approximately 20 scouts that participate in the
8 Lincoln Trail Hike; it is a 20-mile hike that follows the
9 journey of Abraham Lincoln as he traveled from New Salem to
10 Springfield; many of the scouts from the troop have completed
11 the walk multiple times; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14 we recognize and commend Boy Scout Troop 54 on its
15 participation in the flag-raising ceremony at the Abraham
16 Lincoln Presidential Museum dedication and convey our
17 congratulations and best wishes to this fine organization for
18 youth; and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to Petersburg Boy Scout Troop 54 as an expression of
21 our esteem.
