HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The work of Catholic Charities of Illinois to
3 serve those most in need began in the mid-1800s when Catholic
4 orphanages began to appear in many areas of the State, which
5 later became part of the Catholic Charities of Illinois
6 network; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Today, Catholic Charities of Illinois are present
8 throughout the State in each diocese of Illinois (Belleville,
9 Chicago, Joliet, Peoria, Rockford, and Springfield),
10 continuing the tradition of serving the most vulnerable in need
11 through a broad range of services; and
 
12     WHEREAS, The six Catholic Charities of Illinois are
13 Catholic organizations that provide services to the most
14 vulnerable in need of all faiths, through the work of over
15 4,500 employees, in accordance with the mission to serve the
16 poor, a mission that originates from and is rooted in the
17 Gospel values and Catholic Social Teaching, thus fulfilling the
18 role of the Catholic Church to provide care to all those in
19 need; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Catholic Charities of Illinois administer over
21 230 programs at over 200 sites across the State, providing
22 direct services to over one million people; and
 
23     WHEREAS, Catholic Charities of Illinois are supported by
24 one of the largest volunteer networks in the State, with nearly
25 10,000 volunteers; and
 
26     WHEREAS, Catholic Charities of Illinois have long been
27 partners with the State of Illinois in providing services to
28 children, families, seniors, immigrants, the homeless, and the
29 sick; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3 we recognize May 5, 2005, as Catholic Charities of Illinois Day
4 in the State of Illinois.
