HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives offer their sincere appreciation and gratitude
4 to Judith R. Hernandez for her lifetime of service to education
5 and social work both in Illinois and across the country; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Mrs. Hernandez holds a Bachelor of Science and a
7 Master of Arts from Loyola University and a Master of Arts in
8 Guidance and Counseling and a Master of Arts in Administration
9 from Northeastern Illinois University; and
 
10     WHEREAS, She has been a lifetime educator, beginning at
11 Senn High School as a teacher of Spanish and later as the
12 coordinator of Senn's first multilingual program; she has
13 served as a counselor, special education case manager, and
14 chair of the Counseling Department; she also is a nationally
15 certified counselor and has presented workshops on counseling
16 teenagers on multi-cultural issues; and
 
17     WHEREAS, She became an assistant principal at Senn High
18 School and directed the design and implementation of the Metal
19 Works Program, which is a nationally recognized and respected
20 school-to-work project integrating academic subjects with
21 vocational education; and
 
22     WHEREAS, She has received numerous awards during her career
23 for her work in school-to-work programs involving business
24 leaders, labor, students, parents, and community; she received
25 the Citizens Committee Annual Dedication Award for Excellence
26 in Teaching and Meritorious Service to the Local Community; she
27 received the Proyecto Pa'Lante Award from Northeastern
28 Illinois University; she was the recipient of the Oppenheimer
29 Family Foundation Award for Meritorious Service and Guidance
30 and Counseling to CPS Students; she also received a National
31 award given to principals for outstanding work with Service

1 Learning; and
 
2     WHEREAS, In 2001, due to Mrs. Hernandez's leadership and
3 commitment to education as principal, Senn High School was
4 selected by the Fry Foundation to receive a 1.2 million dollar
5 grant; Senn High School was selected based on Mrs. Hernandez's
6 continued efforts towards improving the school's education
7 standards and moving the school forward; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mrs. Hernandez is married and she and her husband
9 have two sons; she remains committed to her family and to being
10 an educator and advocate for young people; therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13 we honor Judith R. Hernandez for her many accomplishments as an
14 educator and advocate for young people and congratulate her on
15 her retirement and express our gratitude for her many years of
16 public service; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to Judith R. Hernandez as an expression of our
19 respect and esteem.
