HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the
3 members of the Illinois House of Representatives were deeply
4 saddened to learn of the death of Alzata Pincham of Chicago on
5 April 9, 2005; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Mrs. Pincham was born June 27, 1925, to Katherine
7 Cox Henry and James Frederick Henry in Louisville, Tennessee;
8 and
 
9     WHEREAS, After graduating from Tennessee State University
10 in 1947, she taught elementary school in Lexington,
11 Mississippi; on August 31, 1948, she married R. Eugene Pincham;
12 and
 
13     WHEREAS, She and her husband moved to Chicago in 1948, and
14 she continued teaching with the Chicago Board of Education
15 until 1959 while her husband was in law school; when he began
16 his career, she "retired" to a career of homemaker and mother;
17 and
 
18     WHEREAS, Alzata was active in numerous community
19 organizations throughout her life; she was a member of the
20 Tennessee State University Vintagers 50-year alumni
21 association and the Chicago State University Taggers
22 Association, vice-president of the West Chesterfield Community
23 Association, president of the Gillespie Local School Council,
24 and former Sunday school teacher at Faith United Methodist
25 Church; and
 
26     WHEREAS, She was a 30-year breast cancer survivor and an
27 active member of Trinity United Church of Christ where she was
28 a charter-founding member and president of the Can-Cer-Vive
29 cancer survivors' ministry; and

1     WHEREAS, State Representative Davis remembers Alzata as a
2 great role model in church, a brilliant woman who spoke with
3 grace, intelligence, and knowledge, and a wonderful mother who
4 kept her family close and together; she also remembers that
5 during the time Judge Pincham was attending law school, Alzata
6 could feed her family by making something big out of something
7 little; and
 
8     WHEREAS, The passing of Alzata Pincham is felt by all who
9 knew and loved her, especially her husband of 57 years, retired
10 Illinois Appellate Court Justice R. Eugene Pincham; her
11 children, Robert, Andrea (Robert Benton), and James; her
12 sisters, Rowena Hodges (Robert) and Edith Butler (Wendell); her
13 grandchildren, Evan Eugene Pincham and Christina Pincham; and a
14 host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends;
15 therefore, be it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18 even as her death is mourned, we give thanks for the blessing
19 of Alzata Pincham's life and extend our sincerest condolences
20 to her family, friends, and community; and be it further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to her family as an expression of our deepest
23 sympathy.
