HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois are pleased to honor Mary Davenport for her
4 many years of membership in the Friendly Center Club at the Fox
5 Valley Park District; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Mary was born on November 7, 1904, in Naperville,
7 where she was raised on a grain farm; she lived in Naperville
8 and attended school at St. Peter and Paul's and then Naperville
9 Central High School; after graduation, she worked at CB & Q in
10 Chicago from 1923 until 1927; and
 
11     WHEREAS, She met her husband, Merle Davenport, at CB & Q,
12 and they were married on May 7, 1927; they were married for
13 over 46 years when he passed away on November 7, 1973; they had
14 two children; Lorraine was born in 1928 and was a Lt. Colonel
15 flight nurse in the Air Force; sadly, she passed away in 1989;
16 Mary's son, Frank, was born in 1937, and is currently living in
17 Las Vegas, Nevada; and
 
18     WHEREAS, After her husband passed away and her children
19 were out of school, Mary worked temporarily at the Tivoli
20 Theatre selling tickets, at Kresge's dime store, and has
21 volunteered for the Salvation Army doing crafts, issuing
22 discount cards, and teaching Rules of the Road; she has also
23 spent many years volunteering at the Friendly Center Club; and
 
24     WHEREAS, Ms. Davenport is the oldest and longest Friendly
25 Center Club member at the age of 100; she was presented with an
26 award in November of 2004 for her outstanding dedication and
27 service to the Friendly Center Club; therefore, be it
 
28     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
30 we honor Mary Davenport for her many years of membership in the

1 Friendly Center Club at the Fox Valley Park District, and we
2 thank her for her years of community service; and be it further
 
3     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to Ms. Davenport as an expression of our deepest
5 respect and esteem.
