HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Lee Jessup is retiring from his position as
3 principal of Lincoln Trail Elementary School following the
4 2004-2005 school year; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Jessup taught at Glenn Elementary School in
6 Normal from 1972 to 1974; he worked as a history teacher at
7 Parkside Junior High in Normal from 1974 to 1978, where he was
8 also the football and wrestling coach; he also coached
9 wrestling at Chiddix in Normal; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He is an IHSA Wrestling Official and served as
11 principal at Seymour Grade School from 1978 to 1981; he was
12 Director of Transportation in 1980; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Mr. Jessup began his 24 years of service as
14 principal at Lincoln Trail Elementary in 1981; while at Lincoln
15 Trail, he oversaw three building projects to accommodate
16 expansion; he was instrumental in the passing of a number of
17 referenda to enhance buildings and education in the district;
18 he helped facilitate "Hands Around the World" to teach students
19 about cultural differences; he organized a "Veteran's
20 Appreciation Assembly" to recognize all military veterans and
21 teach students to appreciate their sacrifices and to be
22 thankful for their freedom; and
 
23     WHEREAS, He is active in his community, having served on
24 Mahomet Village Board from 1984 to 1988; he secured grant
25 funding for a project to enhance Main Street (lighting and
26 sidewalks); he has served as a volunteer
27 firefighter/EMT/public information officer at Cornbelt Fire
28 Protection District from 1984 until the present; and
 
29     WHEREAS, Mr. Jessup took eighth grade students from Mahomet
30 to Washington, D.C., each year from 1985 through 1996 and from

1 Normal in the late 1970s; he is a member of Mahomet United
2 Methodist Church, including teaching Sunday School Classes for
3 Jr. & Sr. High and organizing the youth group Trick-or-Treat
4 for Helping Hands; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He helped an anonymous group organize and deliver
6 food baskets at Thanksgiving for less fortunate community
7 members; he has been and still is an excellent father to three
8 boys and one girl, in whom he instilled a desire to help others
9 and do what is right no matter what; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12 we congratulate Mr. Lee Jessup on the occasion of his
13 retirement after 33 years in education, and we thank him for
14 his many years of dedication to the education of young people;
15 and be it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to Mr. Jessup as an expression of our respect and
18 esteem and with best wishes for a relaxing retirement.
