HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of this Body are honored to recognize
3 significant milestones in the lives of the people of this
4 State; and
 
5     WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Catherine Ann
6 Lancaster of Flossmoor is celebrating the 80th anniversary of
7 her birth; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Catherine Ann Grimes was born on March 15, 1925,
9 in Louisville, Kentucky, to Charles A. Grimes and Zona Mae
10 (Hood) Grimes; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Catherine attended primary and secondary school
12 in Memphis, Tennessee; in 1946, she received her diploma in
13 nursing from St. Joseph Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee; she
14 received her post graduate certification in operating room
15 nursing from the University of Chicago in 1951; in 1984, she
16 earned a Bachelor of Science in health arts from the University
17 of St. Francis in Joliet; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Mrs. Lancaster spent many years working as a nurse
19 in the State of Illinois; she worked at University of Chicago
20 Hospitals, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, and at Christ Community
21 Hospital from 1961 until her retirement in 1987; at Christ
22 Community Hospital, now known as Advocate Christ Medical Center
23 in Oak Lawn, she worked as assistant supervisor of surgery,
24 operating room supervisor and clinical instruction
25 (Evangelical School of Nursing), and as director of surgical
26 services including operating room, recovery room, Surgi-Care
27 Center, and the surgical intensive care unit; and
 
28     WHEREAS, She served in the United States Nursing Cadet
29 Corps from 1943 to 1946 during World War II; she is a member of
30 the Illinois Nurses Association District 1 and District 8, and

1 she is a charter member, past board member, past chapter
2 president, and past delegate to the National Congress of the
3 Association of Operating Room Nurses Chapter 1406; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Catherine married George Lancaster of Fulton,
5 Kentucky, in 1947; the couple relocated to Chicago from
6 Lexington, Kentucky, in 1950; in 1952, they were blessed with
7 their first son, Charles, and in 1959 they were blessed again
8 with the birth of their daughter, Ruth Ann; and
 
9     WHEREAS, She lives with her son, Charles, and her three
10 grandchildren, Lauren Lancaster, Jacqueline Lancaster, and
11 Thomas Lancaster in Flossmoor; her daughter and son-in-law,
12 Ruth and Karl Almquist, are residents of Kingwood, Texas; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Mrs. Lancaster is an active member of St. Clements
14 Church in Harvey; she serves on the Altar Committee and
15 volunteers at the weekly food pantry; therefore, be it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18 we congratulate Catherine Ann Lancaster on reaching the
19 distinguished mark of her 80th birthday, and we extend to her
20 our sincere best wishes for the future; and be it further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to Mrs. Lancaster as an expression of our respect and
23 esteem.
