HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois were grieved to learn of the death in Iraq of
4 U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Christopher Zimny on Monday, January
5 31, 2005; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Zimny was a graduate of St.
7 Catherine Laboure School, Glenbrook South High School, and
8 Illinois State University; during high school, he was a track
9 star, was a good student, and excelled in sports; he enlisted
10 in the Marines after the 2001 terrorist attacks and loved being
11 a Marine; and
 
12     WHEREAS, He was one of the special recipients of supplies
13 collected by St. Catherine Laboure's Brownie Troop 921; when he
14 was due to return to active duty in Iraq in August 2003, the
15 troop sent him off with a scrapbook of congratulatory letters;
16 and
 
17     WHEREAS, He earned two Purple Hearts for injuries received
18 in earlier battles, a shrapnel injury in August and wounds
19 incurred during a rocket-propelled grenade attack in October
20 while he was on patrol in the city of Fallujah; his back was
21 hurt in Kuwait just before the start of the Iraq war in 2003,
22 but he stayed in the fight for several weeks before being sent
23 back home to Glenview to recuperate; and
 
24     WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Zimny was assigned to the 1st
25 Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine
26 Expeditionary Force from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; and
 
27     WHEREAS, The passing of Lance Corporal Christopher Zimny
28 has been deeply felt by many, including his parents, Barbara
29 and Ted Zimny; his sisters, Michelle Stuart, Danielle Zimny,
30 and Lisa Zimny; his brother, John; and his grandmother, Helen

2     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, we
4 mourn the death of Lance Corporal Christopher Zimny, and we
5 extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, fellow
6 Marines, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
7     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Lance Corporal Zimny
8 and his willingness to serve our country, which led to him
9 making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of Lance Corporal Christopher Zimny as
12 an expression of our deepest sympathy for their loss.
