HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois wish to congratulate Gerald L. Farley on the
4 occasion of his retirement as mayor of Mount Prospect; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Gerald "Skip" Farley served the Village of Mount
6 Prospect for the past 16 years as mayor; during his tenure as
7 mayor there have been many accomplishments, including building
8 and occupying a new Village Hall and the renovation of downtown
9 Mount Prospect; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Mayor Farley served as President of the Northwest
11 Municipal Conference in 1997 and also served on its Executive
12 Committee, Legislative Committee, and Finance Committee, and
13 was a member of the Cook County Storm Water Management
14 Commission; he was also a member of the United States
15 Conference of Mayors; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Acknowledging the importance of international
17 friendship, Mayor Farley initiated an exchange with sister city
18 Savres, France; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Mayor Farley has continually advocated for
20 cultural, religious, and racial understanding within the
21 Village and received the 2002 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
22 "Excellence in Leadership" Award; and
 
23     WHEREAS, Mayor Farley championed a Village-wide flood
24 control program and initiated a ten-year, multi-million
25 dollar, local road program to improve the overall condition of
26 Mount Prospect roads; and
 
27     WHEREAS, Mayor Farley has been a resident of Mount Prospect
28 for 32 years and previously served in other capacities in the
29 community, including on the Village of Mount Prospect Plan

1 Commission, 1978-1979, and as a Village of Mount Prospect
2 Trustee, 1979-1980; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Before coming to Mount Prospect, Mr. Farley served
4 as Executive Director, American Association of Senior
5 Physicians, and also served on the Indianaola, Iowa School
6 Board for six years, two years as president; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Mr. Farley served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to
8 1955; He is married to Janice and has two children and six
9 grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12 we congratulate Mount Prospect Mayor Gerald "Skip" Farley on
13 the occasion of his retirement and thank him for his dedication
14 to the citizens of Mount Prospect; and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to Gerald L. Farley as a token of our respect and
17 esteem with best wishes for an enjoyable and fulfilling
18 retirement.
