SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
65 ILCS 5/10-3-3.1

    Amends the Municipal Code. In a Section that provides that a non-home rule unit shall not assign a fireman to perform police duties or a policeman to perform firefighting duties, provides that the Section does not apply to municipalities with a population of less than 60,000. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by
5 changing Section 10-3-3.1 as follows:
 
6     (65 ILCS 5/10-3-3.1)
7     Sec. 10-3-3.1. Distinct police and fire duties. A non-home
8 rule municipality shall not assign a "fireman", as defined in
9 Section 10-3-2, to perform police duties or a "policeman", as
10 defined in Section 10-3-1, to perform firefighting duties or in
11 any way combine the duties of a fireman or a policeman after
12 his or her appointment from a police department or fire
13 department register of eligibles. A non-home rule municipality
14 shall not administer its fire department's or police
15 department's regular work assignments in a manner inconsistent
16 with this Section. This Section does not apply to any
17 municipality that created a department of public safety before
18 January 1, 1998. This Section does not apply to municipalities
19 with a population of less than 60,000.

21     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
22 becoming law.
