Amends the Alcoholism and Other Drug Abuse and Dependency Act. Provides that the Department of Human Services shall conduct a best practices study for the treatment of methamphetamine addicts. Provides that the Department shall file a report of its findings with the General Assembly by January 1, 2006 and shall disseminate the report to the public by January 1, 2006 so that the public and treatment providers are informed about how to recognize methamphetamine addiction and how to treat the addiction. Effective July 1, 2005.

| AN ACT concerning substance abuse.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Alcoholism and Other Drug Abuse and |
5 |
| Dependency Act is amended by adding Section 5-30 as follows: |

| (20 ILCS 301/5-30 new) |

| Sec. 5-30. Best practices study for the treatment of |
8 |
| methamphetamine addicts. The Department of Human Services |
9 |
| shall conduct a best practices study for the treatment of |
10 |
| methamphetamine addicts. The Department shall file a report of |
11 |
| its findings with the General Assembly by January 1, 2006 and |
12 |
| shall disseminate the report to the public by January 1, 2006 |
13 |
| so that the public and treatment providers are informed about |
14 |
| how to recognize methamphetamine addiction and how to treat the |
15 |
| addiction.

| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect on July |
17 |
| 1, 2005.
