SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
65 ILCS 5/3.1-30-10   from Ch. 24, par. 3.1-30-10

    Amends the Illinois Municipal Code. In municipalities of less than 500,000, provides that the municipal clerk, when authorized by the corporate authorities of the municipality, may appoint the number of deputy clerks necessary to discharge the functions and duties of the office of municipal clerk (now, the clerk may be authorized to appoint one deputy clerk). Provides that the corporate authorities of the municipality may limit the number of deputy clerks that the municipal clerk may appoint. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by
5 changing Section 3.1-30-10 as follows:
 
6     (65 ILCS 5/3.1-30-10)  (from Ch. 24, par. 3.1-30-10)
7     Sec. 3.1-30-10. Deputy clerk.
8     (a) In municipalities with a population of 500,000 or more,
9 the municipal clerk may appoint the number of deputy clerks
10 necessary to discharge the functions and duties of the office
11 of municipal clerk.
12     (b) In municipalities of less than 500,000, the municipal
13 clerk, when authorized by the corporate authorities, may
14 appoint the number of deputy clerks necessary to discharge the
15 functions and duties of the office of municipal clerk one
16 deputy clerk, who need not be a resident of the municipality.
17 The corporate authorities of the municipality may limit the
18 number of deputy clerks that the municipal clerk may appoint.

20     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
21 becoming law.
