HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Drew Michael Uhles of Du Quoin died
3 on September 15, 2004 due to injuries sustained in an attack
4 near his outpost in Iraq; he was born September 19, 1983 and is
5 the son of Daniel and Marla Uhles of St. Johns; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Drew had a lifelong dream of becoming a Marine; he
7 signed up under the delayed entry program at age 17 while still
8 in high school, and entered basic training soon after
9 graduation from Du Quoin High School in 2002; he completed boot
10 camp at MCRD, San Diego, California on January 22, 2003 and
11 joined the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine regiment, as a mortarman
12 on April 9, 2003; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He then went to SOI at Camp Pendelton, California
14 for advanced infantry training, which he completed on April 8,
15 2003; he was promoted to Private First Class on April 1, 2003;
16 he was then assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st
17 Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air
18 Ground Combat Center, Twenty-nine Palms Marine Base,
19 California; and
 
20     WHEREAS, He arrived in Kuwait on June 28, 2003; he received
21 his Grey Belt in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program at An
22 Najaf, Iraq on August 2, 2003; after completing a tour with his
23 unit in the areas of An Najaf and Babylon, he returned to the
24 states in October, 2003; and
 
25     WHEREAS, He attained the rank of Lance Corporal on December
26 1, 2003; on August 25, 2004, Drew departed for his second tour
27 of Iraq; he received the National Defense Service Medal, Sea
28 Service Deployment Ribbon, and Global War on Terrorism
29 Expeditionary Medal; and
 
30     WHEREAS, The passing of Lance Corporal Drew Michael Uhles

1 will be deeply felt by many, especially his parents, Dan and
2 Marla Uhles; his brothers Sean and Neil; and his sister
3 Melissa; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6 together with his family, friends, fellow members of the United
7 States armed forces, and the citizens of this State and this
8 great nation, we mourn the passing of Lance Corporal Drew
9 Michael Uhles and we extend to his family our sincerest
10 condolences; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Lance Corporal Drew Michael Uhles as
13 an expression of our deepest sympathy.
