SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate Arles Hendershott Love on being inducted into
4Illinois State University School of Communications, TV-10 Hall
5of Fame; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love graduated from Illinois
7State University in 1979, which celebrates the 50th
8anniversary of its broadcasting program in April 2024; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love has worked as reporter,
10photographer, producer, and assignment editor; she was named
11news director at WIFR in 1986, a time when less than 5% of news
12directors in the country were female; she became community
13relations director for WIFR and Benedek Broadcasting in 1997;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love served as the state
16coordinator for the Radio Television Digital News Association
17from 1989 to 1993 and 1995 to 1996; she was on the Associated
18Press Illinois Advisory Board from 1989 to 1992, serving as
19president from 1991 to 1992; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love regularly lectured to
21writing and broadcasting classes at Northern Illinois

1University and Rock Valley College from 1986 to 1997; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love's community work includes
3serving in leadership positions on many community boards; she
4developed a telethon for the Rockford Rescue Mission at WIFR,
5which is now in its 27th year and has raised over three million
6dollars, and she produced a telethon while at WIFR for the
7restoration of Rockford's historic Coronado Theater that
8raised over $200,000 in one night; she chaired the American
9Heart Association HeartWalk and oversaw its growth from
10raising $20,000 a year to over $100,000; she coordinated the
11donation of a Children's TV studio to the Discovery Center
12Museum in Rockford; she developed a coat drive for the
13Rockford Salvation Army that collects and distributes
14thousands of coats each year, mostly to children, a drive that
15has continued for over 25 years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love became the development
17director at Milestone in 2005, the largest provider of
18services to children and adults with developmental
19disabilities in Northern Illinois; after 18 years on the job,
20over $24 million dollars had been raised; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love's legislative involvement
22includes successfully lobbying for the AED/Good Samaritan Law
23in Illinois, working on several pieces of legislation designed

1to help the disabled community, lobbying for funding for
2disability services, and lobbying for a military designated
3license plate in Illinois for the U.S. Coast Guard; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love has received numerous
5awards and recognitions throughout the years, including the
61986 A.P. Award for Best Spot News Coverage Downstate T.V.
7State of Illinois, the 1986 JayCees Presidential Award of
8Honor for Community Service, the 1989 Special Olympics Media
9Appreciation Award for State of Illinois, the 1991 YWCA Leader
10Luncheon Award for Outstanding Professional Woman of the Year,
11the 1992 A.P. Advisory Board Presidential Service Award, and
12the 1995 Rockford Area Crimestoppers of the Year; in 1998, she
13received the On the Waterfront Weekend Warrior Award, the
14Winnebago/Boone American Heart Association Volunteer Service
15Award, and the Rock River Valley United Way Volunteer Award;
16she received the 2000 Distinguished Service Award
17Winnebago/Boone Counties American Heart Association and the
182001 American Red Cross Outstanding Service Award; she
19received the 2003 Alpine Kiwanis Touch A Life Award for
20Outstanding Community Service, the 2008 Rockford Rescue
21Mission Volunteer Service Award, and the 2009 RAMP United Way
22Volunteer of the Year; she was also awarded the Lifescape
23Community Services Golden Star Award for Volunteer Support;

1    WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love was appointed to the
2Illinois State University School of Communications Advisory
3Board and was named the School of Communications Homecoming
4Honored Alumni in 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love has been listed in
6Outstanding Young Women in America, Who's Who in the Midwest,
7Who's Who in Entertainment, Who's Who in America, Who's Who of
8American Women, and the America's Registry of Outstanding
9Professionals; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Arles Hendershott Love has remained committed to
11Illinois State University; she funds a scholarship each year
12for TV-10 students and visits the campus on a regular basis to
13mentor students; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Arles
16Hendershott Love on being inducted into Illinois State
17University School of Communications, TV-10 Hall of Fame; and
18be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to Arles Hendershott Love as a symbol of our respect
21and esteem.
