SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Cleveland Darnell "Cleve" Peete Jr. of
4Champaign, who passed away on March 4, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Cleveland Peete was born to Cleveland and Lula
6Mae Peete in Memphis, Tennessee on December 21, 1952; he
7attended the Developmental Services Center in Champaign; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Cleveland Peete held numerous jobs throughout his
9life, first working as a head chef at the House of Chin, a
10Chinese restaurant; he also worked at Campus Sports Wear for
11many years; his longest and final job was at Murphy's Pub in
12Champaign, where he performed multiple tasks; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Cleveland Peete was an avid fan of the Chicago
14Cubs; he enjoyed attending University of Illinois (U of I)
15football games on the weekends and spending a lot of time on
16the U of I campus, where he was known by many throughout the
17community; he loved expressing his love of cooking through his
18work; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Cleveland Peete was an iron-willed man with a lot
20of love and integrity that he dedicated to his family,
21friends, and community; and

1    WHEREAS, Cleveland Peete was preceded in death by his
2parents and his siblings, Timothy Peete and Rosemary Sellers;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Cleveland Peete is survived by his brothers,
5Donald Peete, Issac Peete, Leonard Peete, Melvin Peete, Cliff
6Peete, John Peete, Steven Peete, Nicholas Peete, and Jason
7Peete; his sisters, Donella Mae Peete, Marie Peete Smith,
8Patricia Tyler, Latrina Peete, and Ashley Peete; and a host of
9aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Cleveland Darnell "Cleve" Peete Jr. and extend our sincere
13condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
14him; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Cleveland Peete as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
