SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Gary E. Cooper Sr. of Aledo, who
4passed away on November 6, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gary Cooper was born in Moline to Clair and Mary
6Bonynge Cooper on November 30, 1932; he graduated from Aledo
7High School in 1950; he served in the United States Army and
8was stationed in Germany; he married Leota Bogart at the
9Presbyterian Church in Millersburg on June 1, 1958; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Gary Cooper worked at Olsen Lumber Yard in Aledo,
11the Brickyard in Shell City, the Taylor Ridge Elevator, and
12Farmers Grain and Coal in Aledo, where he retired after 27
13years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Gary Cooper was a charter member at the New Life
15Assembly of God Church, where he served in many capacities; he
16was also a member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Gary Cooper enjoyed gardening, doing yard work,
18latch hooking, jigsaw puzzles, word searches, and spoiling his
19grandkids; he also loved going to his son's dairy farm in
20Wisconsin; and

1    WHEREAS, Gary Cooper was preceded in death by his parents;
2his great-granddaughter, Terra Alexander; his son-in-law,
3Michael Bertelsen; his mother and father-in-law, Cecil and
4Helen Bogart; and his brothers-in-law, Keith and David Bogart;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Gary Cooper is survived by his wife, Leota; his
7son, Gary E. (Julie) Cooper Jr.; his daughter, Karen
8Bertelsen; his grandchildren, Brooke Cooper, Morgan Cooper,
9Dale (Amanda) Biddle, Cheryl Baker, Michelle (Adam) Carle, and
10Sarah Gilmour; his step-grandchildren, Derek (Nelson
11Capetillo) Bertelsen and Jackie (Kyle) Leng; his
12great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Dillon, Payton, Kourtney, Eve,
13Tyler, Bella, Mary, Maria, and Lucy; his
14step-great-grandchild, Lynnux; his brothers-in-law, Wilbur
15(Charlotte) Bogart and James (Linda) Bogart; his
16sister-in-law, Elouise Larson; and many nieces and nephews;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Gary E. Cooper Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to his
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
22further
 
23    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
