SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Dr. Gerald L. O'Keeffe of Moline, who
4passed away on October 28, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. O'Keeffe was born to Eugene and Louise Chaput
6O'Keeffe in Walhalla, North Dakota on June 19, 1937; he
7married Doris Folstrom in West St. Paul, Minnesota on July 8
81961; he served in the U.S. Army; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dr. O'Keeffe worked as a veterinarian at River
10Bend Animal Clinic in Moline, retiring after 35 years of
11service; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. O'Keeffe was a member of the Illinois
13Veterinary Medical Association and the American Animal
14Hospital Association, and he served on the Rock Island County
15Vicariate of Catholic Schools Board of Trustees; he was a past
16member of the Moline Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow; he was a
17past president of the Midwest Small Animal Association, the
18Sacred Heart Parish Council, the Sacred Heart Catholic School
19Board, the Seton Catholic School Board, and the Alleman
20Booster Club; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dr. O'Keeffe enjoyed hiking and golfing, and he

1loved spending time at his grandchildren's activities; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Dr. O'Keeffe was preceded in death by his
3brother, Jim O'Keeffe; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dr. O'Keeffe is survived by his wife, Doris; his
5children, Dan (Maureen) O'Keeffe, Karen (Jeff)
6O'Keeffe-Franzen, Dave (Catherine) O'Keeffe, and Susan (Dave)
7Lynch; 11 grandchildren; his siblings, Larry (Marge) O'Keeffe,
8Theresa Malone, Kathleen Melaas, and Pat (Judy Cox-Clark)
9O'Keeffe; his sister-in-law, Jan O'Keeffe; and many nieces and
10nephews; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Dr. Gerald L. O'Keeffe and extend our sincere condolences to
14his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Dr. O'Keeffe as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
