SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Elder Charles O. Nash Sr. of
4Champaign, who passed away on July 27, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Charles Nash was born to Bonnie Ruth Nash Hunter
6and Detroy Carter in Philadelphia, Mississippi on August 6,
71949; he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in
8Philadelphia in 1967; he studied computer technology at
9Parkland College; he attended Charles Harrison Mason Bible
10College, where he received certificates in marriage, family,
11and Christian counseling and Old and New Testament biblical
12studies; he married Eloris Nash on April 30, 1976; he resided
13in the Champaign community for over 50 years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Charles Nash worked as a chemical analytical
15technician at Cabot Corporation in Tuscola for over 30 years;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Charles Nash was the pastor of New Hope Church #1
18in Champaign and the founder and overseer of New Hope Church #3
19in Danville; he was called to ministry in 1977 under the
20leadership of Rev. Willie C. Manuel of Rising Star M. B.
21Church; he served as a deacon in charge of the local church in
22Champaign; over a period of time, he acquired a building to

1hold services, including Sunday Morning Worship services and
2Bible Study; he became the pastor of the church in Champaign in
31980, which he renamed as New Hope Nondenominational before
4uniting with the Church of God in Christ (COGIC), Inc. in 1990;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Charles Nash was the founder and superintendent
7of the Greater Hope District, COGIC, Inc.; he was also the
8administrative assistant of Region #3, Central Illinois
9Jurisdiction, to Bishop Designate Andrei V. Newbon,
10Jurisdictional Prelate; he served as president of the State
11Mission Department and director of the International Sunday
12School Department (ISSD) Men's Ministry of COGIC, Inc.; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Charles Nash was the founder of Religious Leaders
14for Community Care (RCC) and the New Hope Academy after-school
15tutorial program; he was elected as president of the
16Ministerial Alliance of Champaign-Urbana and Vicinity for the
17fourth time in 2017, serving each term for two years; he was a
18faithful member of the NAACP Champaign County Branch and,
19prior to his passing, he was invited to become a member on the
20MLK Board of Directors; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Charles Nash received many awards and was
22recognized nationally for his position in COGIC, Inc. and his
23local contributions, having served on numerous boards and

1committees within the community; he was well known and loved
2by many; he encouraged people to work together, knowing that
3together we are better; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Charles Nash was preceded in death by his
5parents, King and Bonnie Ruth Hunter and Detroy and Cleo
6Carter; his sisters, Mary Ann Schuller, Elsie Lynn Hunter,
7Martha Ann Peebles, and Johnnie Ruth Hunter; and his brothers,
8Willie Nelson Hunter, Clifton Judon, Ira Harris, and Delars
9Carter; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Charles Nash is survived by his wife, National
11Evangelist Eloris "Elizabeth" Nash; his children, Juviouns
12Michelle Thomas, Missionary Yolanda (Stanley) Nash Gardner,
13Corey (Constance) Nash, Jonathan Nash, Dr. Aza (Allen) Baylor,
14Anita "Naomi" (Todd) Nash-Rent, Charles (Sermeaka) Nash Jr.;
1530 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; seven sisters; five
16brothers; and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces,
17cousins, relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Elder Charles O. Nash Sr. and extend our sincere condolences
21to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
22it further

3deepest sympathy.
