SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of R. Garey Hodge of Springfield, who
4passed away on May 29, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, R. Garey Hodge was born to Chester B. and Jean
6Stine Hodge in Moweaqua on July 27, 1937; he received his
7Bachelor of Science in Art Education and Masters of Arts in
8Painting and Art History from Eastern Illinois University; and
 
9    WHEREAS, R. Garey Hodge taught art in Springfield Public
10Schools District 186 from 1962 until he retired from
11Springfield High School in 1994; and
 
12    WHEREAS, R. Garey Hodge was a partner and served on the
13board of directors of the C.R. Davis Company in Springfield;
14he was a member of St. Paul's Lodge No. 500 A.F. & A.M., the
15Scottish Rite Consistory, the Springfield York Rite, the
16Knights Templar, Ansar Shrine, the Ansar Mounted Cowboys Unit,
17and the Royal Order of Jesters; he was a Kentucky Colonel; he
18was also a past president of the Springfield chapter of the
19National Society of Sons of the American Revolution; and
 
20    WHEREAS, R. Garey Hodge was known for his sports-themed
21drawings and acrylic paintings, which he exhibited in numerous

1states; and
 
2    WHEREAS, R. Garey Hodge was preceded in death by his
3parents; his brothers, Robert S. Hodge and Chester B. Hodge
4Jr.; and his sister, Audrey C. Carnegie; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7R. Garey Hodge and extend our sincere condolences to his
8family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of R. Garey Hodge as an expression of
12our deepest sympathy.
