SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Fern Graven of Springfield, who passed
4away on December 15, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Fern Graven was born to Fred and Ruth (McCoy)
6Thacker in Shelbyville on May 23, 1935; she graduated from
7Shelbyville High School in 1954; she married Wendell Graven on
8December 31, 1954, and they shared 67 years of marriage before
9he preceded her in death on February 28, 2022; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Fern Graven worked at PN Hirsch Department Store
11and at Stephens Greenhouse; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Fern Graven's life was filled with laughter; she
13enjoyed celebrating holidays and birthdays with loved ones,
14camping trips with family, and attending her children's and
15grandchildren's sporting events; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Fern Graven cherished her roles as a wife,
17mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Fern Graven was preceded in death by her parents,
19her four brothers, and her five sisters; and

1    WHEREAS, Fern Graven is survived by her sons, Dean
2(Stacey) Graven and Doug (Amy Cashman) Graven; her
3grandchildren, Tina Gardiner, Kyle Graven, Bryon Graven, and
4Brett Graven; her six great-grandchildren; her four
5great-great-grandchildren; her many nieces, nephews, and
6cousins; and her granddog, Rudy; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Fern Graven and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
10friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Fern Graven as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
