SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of George Thomas Warfield Jr. of Decatur,
4formerly of Los Angeles, California, who passed away on March
54, 2023; and
 
6    WHEREAS, George Warfield was born to George Thomas Sr. and
7Jessie Pauline (Ledsinger) Warfield in Louisville, Kentucky on
8October 11, 1938; he was raised in Metropolis, graduating from
9Metropolis High School in 1956; he relocated to Decatur after
10graduation that same year, where he was employed as a factory
11laborer with Caterpillar; he joined the U.S. Navy in January
121958, serving on active duty for four years and in the Navy
13Reserve for four years before being honorably discharged in
141964; he then moved to Los Angeles, California and attended
15Los Angeles Trade Technical College, where he studied brick
16masonry, and Los Angeles City College; and
 
17    WHEREAS, George Warfield was employed as an animal control
18officer by the County of Los Angeles, retiring in 1998; and
 
19    WHEREAS, George Warfield was a member of First AME Church
20Los Angeles and a member of the Men of FAME Choir, where he
21often made baked goods for the youth department; he was known
22for his signature peach cobbler and lemonade cake; and

1    WHEREAS, George Warfield was preceded in death by his
2parents; his sister, Charlene Delores; his brother, Lannis
3Wayne Warfield Sr.; his nephews, Lannis Wayne Warfield Jr. and
4Brian "Poncho" Carney; and his niece, Ebony Jewel Howard; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George Warfield is survived by his daughters,
6Lori Nadine Warfield and Toni Yvette Adams; his grandchildren,
7Aubrey Brooks Haynes, Brandon Connish, and Daniel R. Phillips;
8his brothers, Jesse O. Warfield, Larry E. (Eloise) Warfield,
9and Roger (Mattie) Warfield; his sisters, Joel I. (Louis)
10Webster, Gloria E. (John) Jordan, Jackie S. Warfield, Freda R.
11(Chester) Parsons, and Beverly A. Warfield; his special
12friends, Katherine Hines and Arthur Perkins; and a host of
13nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16George Thomas Warfield Jr. and extend our sincere condolences
17to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
18it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of George Warfield as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
