SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Brent Harold Gwillim of Peoria
4Heights, who passed away on February 8, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Brent Gwillim was born to Olive and Harold
6Gwillim in St. Louis, Missouri on July 28, 1946; he graduated
7from Alton High School and Bradley University; he received his
8Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri College of Law;
9he was a proud member of the Sigma Chi fraternity; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Brent Gwillim's entire law career was spent at
11Heyl, Royster, Voelker and Allen, where he loved the practice
12of law, his coworkers, his partners, his support staff, and
13his clients; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Brent Gwillim participated in and was a leader of
15many professional associations, including being chairman of
16the Corporation and Securities Section Council of the Illinois
17State Bar Association and chairman of the committee which
18created and assisted in the adoption of a new Illinois Supreme
19Court rule limiting liability of attorneys practicing in
20Illinois; throughout his life, he was a statewide speaker on a
21variety of legal and business topics and also spoke and
22created seminars for the Illinois Institute of Continuing

1Legal Education; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Brent Gwillim held many leadership positions in
3his community, including serving as chairman of the Tri-County
4March of Dimes, president of the Peoria High School Band and
5Orchestra Parents' Club, and president of the Peoria High
6School Boosters; he also sat on the boards of First Federated
7Church and the Country Club of Peoria; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Brent Gwillim will be remembered for his
9kindness, his humor, his wit, his strength, and his faith; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Brent Gwillim was preceded in death by his son,
11Kirk (Karmen); his sister, Tara Eby; his parents; and his
12father-in-law, George Kirkpatrick; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Brent Gwillim is survived by his wife of 57
14years, Judy; his mother-in-law, Lois Kirkpatrick; his sons,
15Todd (Susie), Brad (Miew), and Ryan (Morgan); his
16grandchildren, Lauren, Marshall, Emerson, Finley, Harper, and
17Reese Gwillim and Ryan (Lauren) and Nathan (Josie) Darko; his
18niece, Pamala (Jim) Coady; his nephew, Chad (Amy) Eby; and his
19many cousins; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Brent Harold Gwillim and extend our sincere condolences to his
2family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
3further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Brent Gwillim as an expression of
