SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Jerry E. Ely of Springfield, who
4passed away on January 24, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jerry Ely was born to Howard and Norma (Suedel)
6Ely in Gillespie on March 5, 1929; he married Marion Donnelly
7on May 11, 1957, and she preceded him in death after 65 years
8of marriage on December 8, 2022; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jerry Ely served as an active duty member of the
10U.S. Air Force for 20 years before retiring in 1971; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Jerry Ely worked with the Department of General
12Service Administration and the U.S. Secret Service and was
13acting director of the V.A. Camp Butler National Cemetery; he
14retired after 20 years of service in 1991; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Jerry Ely was a member of Christ the King Church,
16Knights of Columbus #4179, V.F.W. Post #755, and Disabled
17American Veterans, Chapter 15; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jerry Ely was preceded in death by his parents;
19his brothers, Gilbert and John Ely; his sister, Mary Carrigan;
20and his granddaughter, Sarah Ely; and

1    WHEREAS, Jerry Ely is survived by his son, Todd Ely; his
2granddaughter, Lauren (Tony) Nevins; his great-granddaughters,
3Lila, Cora, and Gia Nevins; and his sister, Martha (Dennis)
4Solon; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Jerry E. Ely and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
8friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Jerry Ely as an expression of our
11deepest sympathy.
