SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Poletha "Polly" Webster of
4Springfield, who passed away on January 5, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Poletha Webster was born in Scranton, Arkansas on
6August 27, 1931; she started her formal education at Scranton
7Elementary School in Scranton, Arkansas before obtaining her
8high school diploma through School District 186 in
9Springfield, Illinois; and
 
10    WHEREAS, As a young woman, Poletha Webster moved to Kansas
11City, Missouri, where she cashiered at the Parkview Pharmacy,
12served as a waitress at the famous Muehlebach Hotel, and
13worked as a clerk at Fifty Minute Cleaners; after realizing
14she possessed an entrepreneurial spirit and a talent in caring
15for others, she began serving as a longtime foster parent and
16became the CEO of a home daycare, which ran for over 50 years;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Poletha Webster was committed to her faith, and
19she was a longtime member of Prayer Wheel Church of God in
20Christ in Springfield; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Poletha Webster was known for her excellent

1southern style cuisine, including fried pies, homemade canned
2goods, soups, and pastries; she also enjoyed gardening and
3playing the tambourine; she will be remembered for the love
4she bestowed upon her family and the children under her care;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Poletha Webster is survived by her children,
7Maurice, Michael, Valerie, Yvonne, Linda (Leonard), and Sam
8Jr.; her sisters, Mary Ellen Ellenberg, Christine Hawkins, and
9Mary Elizabeth Thomas; her 21 grandchildren; her 63
10great-grandchildren; her 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a
11host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and bonus children;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Poletha "Polly" Webster and extend our sincere condolences to
16her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Poletha Webster as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
