SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

    Amends the Underserved Health Care Provider Workforce Act. Includes a student studying chiropractic medicine and chiropractic physicians in the Act's provisions. Amends the Loan Repayment for Physicians Act. Provides that the term "physician" means a person licensed under the Medical Practice Act of 1987 (instead of a person licensed under the Medical Practice Act of 1987 to practice medicine in all of its branches). Provides that the term "educational loans" means higher education student loans that a person has incurred in attending a registered professional physician education program, including a registered medical school or a registered chiropractic college or institution (instead of higher education student loans that a person has incurred in attending a registered professional physician education program).

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Underserved Health Care Provider Workforce
5Act is amended by changing Sections 3.07 and 3.09 and by adding
6Section 3.11 as follows:
 
7    (110 ILCS 935/3.07)  (from Ch. 144, par. 1453.07)
8    Sec. 3.07. "Eligible medical student" means a person who
9meets all of the following qualifications:
10        (a) he or she is an Illinois resident at the time of
11    application for a scholarship under the program
12    established by this Act;
13        (b) he or she is studying medicine in a medical school
14    located in Illinois or studying chiropractic medicine in a
15    chiropractic college or institution in Illinois;
16        (c) he or she exhibits financial need as determined by
17    the Department; and
18        (d) he or she agrees to practice full-time in a
19    Designated Shortage Area as a primary care physician,
20    general surgeon, emergency medicine physician, or
21    obstetrician, or chiropractic physician one year for each
22    year he or she is a scholarship recipient.

2    Sec. 3.09. Eligible health care provider. "Eligible health
3care provider" means a primary care physician, general
4surgeon, emergency medicine physician, obstetrician,
5chiropractic physician, advanced practice registered nurse, or
6physician assistant who accepts Medicaid, Medicare, the
7State's Children's Health Insurance Program, private
8insurance, and self-pay.

11    Sec. 3.11. Chiropractic physician. "Chiropractic
12physician" means a chiropractic physician as defined in the
13Medical Practice Act of 1987.
 
14    Section 10. The Loan Repayment Assistance for Physicians
15Act is amended by changing Section 10 as follows:

17    Sec. 10. Definitions. In this Act, unless the context
18otherwise requires:
19    "Department" means the Department of Public Health.
20    "Educational loans" means higher education student loans
21that a person has incurred in attending a registered
