HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Illinois Student
4Assistance Corps (ISACorps) on the occasion of its 15th
5anniversary; and
 
6    WHEREAS, ISACorps members are recent college graduates who
7are trained to help students overcome barriers to education
8and training beyond high school; and
 
9    WHEREAS, ISACorps members support students and their
10families as they explore and navigate postsecondary choices,
11apply to college, and seek financial aid and other resources;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, The ISACorps provides direct services statewide,
14ensuring that one-on-one help is in reach no matter where
15students live or what other resources their school districts
16are able to provide; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The majority of ISACorps members have been the
18first in their families to have completed college and have
19lived or attended school in the area where they work, and this
20racially and geographically diverse group includes graduates
21from across the spectrum of Illinois colleges and universities

1and various academic paths; and
 
2    WHEREAS, ISACorps alumni have advanced to work in policy
3positions, as practitioners, as employees and leaders, and in
4other important roles in educational institutions, community
5organizations, research and advocacy groups, and government;
6as a result, the organization has not only helped high school
7students directly but has also helped to establish a more
8representative face on education and public service in
9Illinois; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The first ISACorps cohort began training 15 years
11ago in June 2009; since then, its members have served tens of
12thousands of Illinois students each year through financial aid
13presentations, FAFSA completion workshops, mentoring, and
14one-on-one assistance; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The ISACorps have not only served high school
16students but have provided interventions at high-need middle
17schools under a federal GEAR UP grant, supported new college
18students through the First-Generation Scholars Network, and
19aided older students through community outreach, building and
20supporting services for regions and individuals that would
21otherwise have limited access to college access programs and
22support systems; and

1    WHEREAS, Complications with the Free Application for
2Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2024-25 have highlighted the
3importance of personal assistance to ensure that Illinois
4families receive the financial assistance that they need to
5reach students' educational goals; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we congratulate the Illinois Student Assistance Corps
9(ISACorps) on its 15th anniversary, and we extend our
10gratitude to its members for their efforts to ensure that
11Illinois students and families have access to the
12transformational potential of education and training beyond
13high school.
