HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Tom Walters on the
4occasion of his retirement from Caterpillar; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Prior to joining Caterpillar, Tom Walters led a
613-year career in government affairs with the State of
7Illinois, including time spent as a legislative liaison with
8the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Tom Walters joined Caterpillar as manager of
10Illinois State Government Affairs in 1998, focusing on tax,
11incentives, employment law, transportation, and environmental
12public policy; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Tom Walters later became manager of U.S. State
14Government Affairs, expanding his focus to defend against
15legislative efforts that negatively impacted long-standing
16dealer agreements and warranty practices, right to repair, and
17captive finance concerns; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Tom Walters was named director of U.S. State and
19Americas in 2015, leading an expanded U.S. state government
20affairs team and international teams for covering government
21affairs, public affairs, social responsibility, and visitors

1centers in the United States, Brazil, and Mexico; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Tom Walters has served as a leader at
3Caterpillar, representing one of the world's largest
4corporations on the boards of directors for the Illinois
5Manufacturers' Association and the Illinois Chamber of
6Commerce; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Tom Walters is recognized for his integrity,
8leadership, and unwavering commitment to Caterpillar, earning
9the respect of elected officials, Caterpillar colleagues and
10leadership, and key stakeholder groups through his dedication
11to the company's values and enthusiastic commitment to his
12team and the company; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Outside of work, Tom Walters has a deep passion
14for his church, the St. Louis Cardinals, and his community,
15and he often volunteers for charitable causes; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Tom Walters and his wife, Meg, are the parents of
17two children, Matt and Ryan; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Tom Walters is retiring from Caterpillar after 26
19years of admirable service, and he will be truly missed by his
20colleagues; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we congratulate Tom Walters on his retirement from
4Caterpillar, and we wish him the best in all of his future
5endeavors; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to Tom Walters as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
