HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Christ Lutheran
4School boys and girls basketball teams, the Comets, on their
5respective achievements during the 2023-2024 season; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Christ Lutheran School (CLS) boys and girls
7basketball teams were both named state champions, placing
8first in their respective programs at the 2024 Lutheran Sports
9Association (LSA) of Illinois Grade School Basketball
10Championships; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The CLS boys basketball team was named the winner
12of the 2024 LSA of Illinois Grade School Boys Basketball
13Championship after defeating the Immanuel Lutheran School of
14Palatine with a score of 56-35, concluding the season with a
15record of 35-0; and
 
16    WHEREAS, During the 2023-2024 season, the CLS boys
17basketball team also won the Christ Community of St. Louis
18Tournament, the CLS Tournament, and the Lutheran Basketball
19Association of America (LBAA) National Tournament, where the
20team achieved its fifth national championship title in school
21history; and

1    WHEREAS, The CLS boys basketball team is led by Head Coach
2Terry Mooney Jr. and Assistant Coaches Terry Mooney Sr. and
3Marcellus Sommerville; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The CLS boys basketball team includes members
5Nigel Moore, Anfernee Moore, Trey Alexander, Bryan Nichelson,
6Kaylen Hardy, Noah Sydnor, Canaan Metz, Corey Hearn, Carmelo
7Hearn, Quentyn Matthews, Christian Fuller, Camden Knox-Reed,
8Demario Weldy, Lawson Sommerville, and Jaylen Stewart; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The CLS girls basketball team earned its first
10state title at the 2024 LSA of Illinois Grade School Girls
11Basketball Championship after defeating the Immanuel Lutheran
12School of Palatine with a score of 49-22, concluding the
13season with a record of 27-0; and
 
14    WHEREAS, During the 2023-2024 season, the CLS girls
15basketball team also went undefeated in its Illinois
16Elementary School Association (IESA) season and won the Zion
17Marengo Tournament and the LBAA National Tournament, where the
18team secured its first national championship title in school
19history; and
 
20    WHEREAS, The CLS girls basketball team is led by Head
21Coach Paris Gulley and Assistant Coach Marlon Herron; and

1    WHEREAS, The CLS girls basketball team includes members
2Amiyah Gulley, Kennedy Gaines, Ma'Kya Maxwell, Keniya Todd,
3Colleen Lamberti, Da'Mari Maxwell, Leah Stenger, Remiya
4Summerville, Saniyah Jones, and Faith Fuller; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Both the CLS boys and girls basketball teams are
6further assisted by Principal Nathaniel Schmidtke and Athletic
7Director Jennifer Lamberti; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we congratulate the Christ Lutheran School boys and girls
11basketball teams, the Comets, on their respective achievements
12during the 2023-2024 season, and we wish the teams' student
13athletes continued success in their future endeavors; and be
14it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
16presented to the Christ Lutheran School (CLS), Head Coach
17Terry Mooney Jr. of the CLS boys basketball team, and Head
18Coach Paris Gulley of the CLS girls basketball team as an
19expression of our esteem and respect.
