HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Whitney K. Siehl on her
4installation as President of the Women's Bar Association of
5Illinois (WBAI); and
 
6    WHEREAS, The WBAI was first established in 1914 by nine
7women lawyers practicing in the Chicago metropolitan area; it
8is one of the oldest and largest bar associations in the State
9of Illinois; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The WBAI serves as an influential voice in
11promoting the interests and welfare of women in the law,
12offering mentorship and networking opportunities, career
13advice, and events that promote and empower women leaders; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Whitney Siehl is an associate attorney with
15Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro, LLP, serving as a plaintiffs'
16litigator focused on class actions in the areas of sexual
17abuse, sexual harassment, antitrust, mass torts, consumer
18protection, environmental, and sports law; her notable
19settlements include an over $17 million fund for survivors of
20Harvey Weinstein's sexual abuse, a $215 million fund for USC
21student survivors of sexual abuse by gynecologist Dr. Tyndall,
22and millions of dollars for college students in contract

1disputes and children with birth injuries; she also represents
2college students and consumers in COVID-19 refund litigation,
3workers in wage-fixing antitrust matters, and athletes in
4concussion litigation, among other cases; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Whitney Siehl previously worked as a legal aide
6to Ohio State Representative Teresa Fedor, working on H.B.
7262, the Safe Harbor for Child Victims of Human Trafficking
8legislation, which was signed into law in 2012; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Whitney Siehl earned her Juris Doctor from The
10Ohio State University, Moritz College of Law, where she was a
11member of the 2013 Sutherland Cup National Champion
12Constitutional Law Moot Court Team and served as president of
13the Women's Legal Society; she graduated from Northwestern
14University and was a member of the women's golf team; she was
15named an NCAA Academic All-American with the Miami University
16women's cross country and track teams; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Whitney Siehl has chaired the WBAI Annual Golf
18Outing since 2015 and hosts numerous clinics teaching women to
19golf; she enjoys volunteer marathon pace coaching and has
20completed numerous triathlons and marathons; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Every year since 2019, Whitney Siehl has been
22recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in Illinois; prior

1to that, she received an Award for Excellence in Pro Bono
2Service from the United States District Court for the Northern
3District of Illinois in 2017; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Whitney Siehl is honored to serve the WBAI, and
5her persistent focus on justice for women has enhanced her
6ability to advocate for WBAI's members every day; her theme
7for the 2023-2024 bar year is Together We Succeed, with a
8strong focus on mentoring and collaboration; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Whitney Siehl will be installed as the 2023-2024
10President of the WBAI at its 109th Annual Installation Dinner
11and Awards Gala at The Field Museum on May 31, 2023; therefore,
12be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we congratulate Whitney K. Siehl on her installation as
16President of the Women's Bar Association of Illinois and wish
17her all the best in her new position; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to Whitney Siehl as an expression of our esteem and
20respect.
