HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, In the early years of the 20th century, the area
3now called Norridge had small truck farms, and in the 1930s and
41940s, it became a place with many riding stables, being near
5the forest preserves; and
 
6    WHEREAS, On December 4th, 1948, a referendum incorporated
7Norridge with 1,675 residents and 80 acres of area that was
8bounded by Irving Park Road (originally Plank Road), Ozanam
9Avenue (originally Phillips Road), Montrose Avenue, and Harlem
10Avenue; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The village doubled in size in 1954, and the
12population grew from 1,675 at incorporation to 15,251 in the
132020 census; and
 
14    WHEREAS, A resident suggested the name "Norridge," with
15"Nor" from Norwood Park Township and "Ridge" from nearby Park
16Ridge; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The first Village Board of Norridge was elected
18in February 1949 with Karl A. Kuchar as the village's first
19president, followed by Joseph Sieb being appointed president
20in November 1951 and serving in that position for 46 years
21until his death in 1998; and

1    WHEREAS, After years of village board meetings in Village
2Clerk Harold Dierkes' home and public meetings in the Norwood
3Park volunteer fire house, Norridge Village Hall was
4constructed in 1954 and housed the Mayor and Village Clerk's
5offices and the Police Department office; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The new village hall was dedicated in October of
71990 at the corner of Irving Park Road and Olcott Avenue; the
8original village hall was converted into an exclusive police
9facility; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Norridge Youth Activities (originally the
11Youth Activities of Norridge) was established in June of 1954
12with the purpose of "social and recreational in the
13furtherance of which to have power to promote athletic
14activities for the youth of the Village of Norridge"; the
15organization was given national recognition with a plaque from
16President John F. Kennedy and Presidential Assistant Ralph H.
17Dungeon; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Not to be confused with the English community of
19Norwich (pronounced "Noritch"), Norridge is the only community
20in the world with that name; and
 
21    WHEREAS, With terrific schools, infrastructure, and

1community, Norridge is a phenomenal place to work, live, and
2raise a family; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5we recognize the approaching 75th anniversary of the Village
6of Norridge and congratulate all residents and village
7officials on this momentous occasion of over half a century of
8incorporation; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
10delivered to Norridge Village President Daniel Tannhauser,
11Village Clerk Gabriela Krasinski, Trustee Donald Gelsomino,
12Trustee Bill Larson, Trustee Jack Bielak, Trustee Andrew
13Ronstadt, Trustee Debra J. Budnik, and Trustee Frank Avino Jr.
14to congratulate them on this significant anniversary and to
15wish them further years of success.
