HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Keith
4Edward Harris, who passed away on February 9, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Keith Harris was born in Chicago to Roy and
6Nellie Jean Harris on April 17, 1968; he grew up in Bellwood,
7where he attended Roosevelt Middle School and graduated from
8St. Joseph High School in Westchester; after high school, he
9attended Triton College and graduated from Lewis University in
10Romeoville with an associate's degree in Business
11Administration and Management; he married Tassanee "Tess"
12Bailey on August 29, 1992; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Keith Harris had an illustrious career spanning
14three decades; he worked in the insurance industry for
15MetLife, Mercer Insurance, and Cigna; he was also a
16businessman and entrepreneur and owned and managed several
17residential properties; he made a hobby out of going to Home
18Depot, where he would often spend hours; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Keith Harris was a servant at heart; he was on the
20police force of the Bellwood Police Department for a short
21period of time; he also served as a trustee for the Village of
22Bellwood and on the Planning & Zoning Commissioner Board; he

1later became a member of the Homewood Community Events Board
2and was a longtime active and faithful board member of
3Operation Uplift and Taproots, Inc.; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Keith Harris committed to his faith at an early
5age; while still living in Bellwood, he and Tess attended Rock
6of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood; after moving to Homewood,
7they attended Victory Apostolic Church in Matteson, where he
8enjoyed the Men's Ministry weekly sessions, affectionately
9known as the "Basement"; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Keith Harris was a loyal, admired, trusted, and
11committed friend to many; he had a humble personality and was
12always open, warm, welcoming, thoughtful, respectful, and
13considerate to everyone; he looked out for his neighbors and
14would often shovel their snow, just like he did his own; when
15outdoors in the spring and summer, his pride and joy was his
16prize-winning lawn that was admired by all; when the kids in
17the neighborhood needed air in their bikes, he was the "go to"
18bike maintenance guy; he was also the neighborhood carpool
19driver and made several stops to drop kids off at school; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Keith Harris was preceded in death by his
21grandparents, Robert and Bernice Harris and Herbert and Ruby
22Taylor; his uncles, Joe, Richard, and Robert Taylor and
23Melvin, Tyrone, and Jeffery Bailey; his aunts, Eva Starks,

1Shirley Golston, and June Taylor; and his cousins Michael and
2Charles Harris; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Keith Harris is survived by his wife, Tassanee;
4his son, Kendall; his daughter, Ariana; his parents, Roy and
5Nellie Jean Harris and Duane and Barbara Lee Sr.; his sister,
6Sylvia (Adrian) Zeno; his brother, Duane (Christian) Lee Jr.;
7his aunts, Janette Latiker, Stella Taylor, Yolanda Taylor,
8Alma Walton, Demetrius (Gerald) Barbee, and Lisa Johnson; his
9uncles, Robert Harris, Howard Starks Sr., Herbert Taylor, and
10Bernard Bailey; his great-aunts, Meloneal Hobson and Mattie
11White; his nieces, Gisele, Skky, Nova, and Reign; his nephew,
12Deonte; his special cousin, Kristian Latiker; and numerous,
13cousins, other relatives, friends, neighbors, and colleagues;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we mourn the passing of Keith Edward Harris and extend our
18sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
19and loved him; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Keith Harris as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
