1 | AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 4895 | ||||||
2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 4895 by replacing | ||||||
3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following: | ||||||
4 | "Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section | ||||||
5 | 27-13.1a as follows: | ||||||
6 | (105 ILCS 5/27-13.1a new) | ||||||
7 | Sec. 27-13.1a. Climate change education. | ||||||
8 | (a) Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, every public | ||||||
9 | school shall provide instruction, study, and discussion of | ||||||
10 | climate change. The instruction shall include, but not be | ||||||
11 | limited to, identifying the environmental and ecological | ||||||
12 | impacts of climate change on individuals and communities and | ||||||
13 | evaluating solutions for addressing and mitigating the impact | ||||||
14 | of climate change, and the instruction shall be in alignment | ||||||
15 | with State learning standards, as appropriate. | ||||||
16 | (b) The State Board of Education shall, subject to |

1 | appropriation, prepare and make available multi-disciplinary | ||||||
2 | instructional resources and professional learning | ||||||
3 | opportunities for educators that may be used to meet the | ||||||
4 | requirements of this Section. | ||||||
5 | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect July 1, | ||||||
6 | 2025.". |
