    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Allows the Secretary of State to issue special registration plates designated as International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers plates to residents of the State.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 3-699.23 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-699.23 new)
7    Sec. 3-699.23. International Brotherhood of Electrical
8Workers license plates.
9    (a) The Secretary of State, upon receipt of all applicable
10fees and applications made in the form prescribed by the
11Secretary, may issue special registration plates designated as
12International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers license
13plates. The special plates issued under this Section shall be
14affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first division,
15motorcycles, and motor vehicles of the second division
16weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates under this Section
17shall expire according to the multi-year procedure established
18by Section 3-414.1 of this Code.
19    (b) The plates shall display the International Brotherhood
20of Electrical Workers symbol. In all other respects, the
21design and color of the special plates shall be wholly within
22the discretion of the Secretary. Appropriate documentation, as
23determined by the Secretary, shall accompany each application.

1The Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates
2to be issued as vanity plates or personalized in accordance
3with Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required
4to designate "Land of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection
5(b) of Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary shall
6prescribe the eligibility requirements and, in his or her
7discretion, shall approve and prescribe stickers or decals as
8provided under Section 3-412.
