SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of John I. Gifford of Rock Island, who
4passed away on October 3, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Gifford was born to John J. and Carrie
6(McAdam) Gifford in Lockport, New York on July 23, 1930; he
7earned his Bachelor of Science in 1952 and his Master of
8Science in 1956, both from Purdue University; he served as a
9first lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, and he
10served in Korea; he married Sara "Jane" Bauer in Chicago on
11January 28, 1955; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Gifford worked as an economist and manager
13of Data Services in the Market Economics Department of the
14John Deere Company; he retired after 39 and a half years of
15service; and
 
16    WHEREAS, John Gifford was active in the American
17Agricultural Economist Association, the National Association
18of Business Economists, the Equipment Manufacturers
19Association, the Farm and Industrial Equipment Institute, the
20Construction Industry Manufacturers Association, the Outdoor
21Power Equipment Institute, the Engine Manufacturers
22Association, the International Farm Tractor Committee, and the

1International Harvesting Equipment Committee, where he served
2as chairman from 1994 to 1995; and
 
3    WHEREAS, John Gifford received leadership recognition from
4the Equipment Manufacturers Institute; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Gifford served on the board of directors of
6the Rock Island Easter Seals Foundation and was active in Rock
7Island Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball; he was an avid
8reader; he loved jazz and classic music and collecting coins;
9he was devoted to his family; and
 
10    WHEREAS, John Gifford was preceded in death by his
11parents; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Gifford is survived by his wife, Jane
13Gifford; his sons, John and James (Nicole) Gifford; and his
14grandson, Giancarlo Gifford; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17John I. Gifford and extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
