SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Gerald Evans Gill of Michigan,
4formerly of Virginia, Illinois, who passed away on July 23,
52022; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Gerald Gill was born in Cass County on July 19,
71931; he graduated from Virginia High School; he completed his
8higher education through Knox College and the University of
9Miami; he served in the U.S. Navy; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Gerald Gill was the founder and board chairman of
11CassComm; he began his career in farming and sales; while
12managing his Virginia-based family business, the Cass County
13Telephone Company (CCTC), he recognized the importance of
14emerging cable television technology in the 1960s; he created
15Cass Community Antenna Television, Inc. (CATV) to serve
16Beardstown in 1965, which would eventually become a cable
17television service; over the years, his companies grew into
18CassComm, becoming a provider of telephone, television, long
19distance, and internet service to more than 30 communities in
20central Illinois; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Gerald Gill was a true pioneer in the
22telecommunications industry, with success in building,

1purchasing, upgrading, and selling cable television systems
2nationwide, along with his many other business investments and
3ventures; he actively participated in every aspect of the
4business until his passing; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gerald Gill was known for being a connoisseur of
6living well and making others feel special; he will be
7remembered for his love of life, family, sailing, and
8adventure; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Gerald Gill is survived by his wife, Mary; his
10son, Gerald S. Gill; his sister, Wendy; and a host of
11grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Gerald Evans Gill and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Gerald Gill as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
