SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Jason Edward McDowell, O.D. of
4Jacksonville, who passed away on July 31, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. McDowell was born to Edward E. and Andrea R.
6(Thompson) McDowell in Iowa City, Iowa on September 12, 1973;
7as a youth, he excelled in baseball, playing through college;
8he graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1991; he attended
9Hannibal-LaGrange University; he then obtained his Doctorate
10of Optometry from the University of Missouri-St. Louis; he
11married Mary Ellen Laws in Hannibal, Missouri on December 12,
121992; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. McDowell began his career in optometry in
14Hannibal and Pittsfield; he moved to Jacksonville in 2001,
15where he began working for the International Eye Care Center;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dr. McDowell was an active member of Lincoln
18Avenue Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and a Sunday School
19teacher; he coached basketball at Westfair Christian Academy
20and served as chairman of the Parent Teacher Fellowship; he
21also served on the Pathway Board and Jacksonville Salvation
22Army Board and was a member of the Jacksonville Rotary Club;

2    WHEREAS, Dr. McDowell loved all things sports, especially
3basketball, golf, and running; he also enjoyed traveling,
4boating, attending mission trips, spending time with family
5and friends, eating ice cream, grilling, taking jeep rides,
6and helping people; he especially loved making people laugh;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. McDowell is survived by his wife; his
9parents; his sons, Clayton E. McDowell and Carter T. McDowell
10(fiancée, Mollie Huff); his brothers, Jeremy (Lisa) McDowell
11and Justin McDowell; and his aunt, Amy Phillips; therefore, be
12it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Jason Edward McDowell, O.D. of Jacksonville and extend our
16sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
17and loved him; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Dr. McDowell as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
