SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Paul Russell Santy, formerly of
4Rosewood Heights, who passed away on September 28, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Paul Russell Santy was born to Earl and Opal
6Pearl (Kimsey) Santy in Rosiclare on August 4, 1928; he
7graduated from Rosiclare High School; he was on staff at the
8U.S. Fleet Sonar School in Key West, Florida for 2 years; he
9served on a destroyer in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War,
10providing fire support for the Army and giving support and
11supplies to guerrilla groups behind the lines, earning two
12Bronze Stars; he attended Michigan State University in East
13Lansing, Michigan and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale
14(SIU-C), where he earned his master's degree in School
15Administration and was inducted into the honorary fraternity
16Phi Delta Kappa at SIU-C in 1955; he married Donna Lou East at
17the First Christian Church in West Frankfort on August 14,
181954, and she preceded him in death on April 19, 2019; they
19lived in Carterville before moving to the East Alton/Wood
20River area; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Paul Santy taught at Roxana Junior and Senior
22High Schools for four years; he then served as principal at
23East Alton Junior High School District 13 for 28 years before

1retiring; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Paul Santy was past-president of the Roxana
3Teacher's Association and served on the board of directors of
4the Teachers Federal Credit Union; he was a member of the
5National Teachers Association, the Illinois Teachers
6Association, and the Illinois Junior High Principals
7Association, serving on several committees of those
8organizations; he served on a committee for selecting
9educational programs for KETC (Channel 9) and the City of Wood
10River Traffic Commission; he also raised funds for the Boy
11Scouts of America; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Paul Santy was a life member of Alton VFW Post
131308, East Alton American Legion Post 794, and the First
14United Methodist Church in East Alton; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Paul Santy was preceded in death by his parents;
16his wife of 65 years, Donna; his son and daughter-in-law,
17Scott Russell and Cathy Santy; and his grandson, Joshua Scott
18Santy; and
 
19    WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Paul Santy was
20survived by his sons, Brent Spencer (Robbie) Santy and Michael
21Scott (Cynthia) Santy; his grandchildren, Kacey Lea Santy,
22Kaylea Nicole Santy, Benjamin Michael Santy, Luke Henry Santy,

1and Brooke Elizabeth Santy; his brother, Richard (Paula)
2Santy; his nieces, Reta D. East, Laura Shewmake, and Jan (Jim)
3Kuppart; and his great-niece, Stephanie Shewmake; therefore,
4be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Paul Russell Santy and extend our sincere condolences to his
8family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Paul Santy as an expression of our
12deepest sympathy.
