SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Elaine "Goodie" Knobel; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Elaine Knobel was born in Newark, New Jersey to
5Mildred (Kushner) Goodman and Stanley Stickler on July 1,
61944; her father was killed during WW II, and she was later
7adopted by Mildred's second husband of 24 years, Mickey
8Goodman; she was raised in West Orange, New Jersey and
9graduated from Mountain High School; she earned a teaching
10degree from the National College of Education in Evanston; she
11married Peter S. Knobel in 1966; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Elaine Knobel taught elementary school; she was
13also proud to serve as a Rebbetzin at Temple Emmanuel in New
14London, Connecticut and later at Beth Emet The Free Synagogue
15in Evanston; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Elaine Knobel was a travel agent extraordinaire;
17in retirement, she found great fulfillment as a doting
18grandma; she and her husband traveled the world, enjoyed art,
19indulged in fine dining, hosted dinner parties, enjoyed
20listening to symphonies, and cheered on teams at the
21occasional sporting event; and

1    WHEREAS, Elaine Knobel was preceded in death by her
2husband, Rabbi Peter S. Knobel, and her parents; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Elaine Knobel is survived by her sons, Seth and
4Jeremy Knobel; her daughter-in-law, Alyssa (Feinberg) Knobel;
5her grandchildren, Leah, Alana, Heather, Stephen, Lily, and
6Oliver; her siblings and their spouses, Judy and Tom Varga and
7Howard and Janet Goodman; and her nieces and nephews, Lauren
8(Yanoff) and Louie Shapiro, Michele Yanoff, Scott Goodman, and
9Dana (Goodman) Yann Butticker; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Elaine "Goodie" Knobel and extend our sincere condolences to
13her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Elaine Knobel as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
