SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Joel B. Pedigo of Oak Park, who passed
4away on July 9, 2021 at the age of 85; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joel Pedigo was born in Smithville, Tennessee to
6Clarence and Willie Mae, who were both sharecroppers; at the
7beginning of World War II, the family moved to Akron, Ohio for
8jobs in the Goodyear rubber factory; and
 
9    WHEREAS, At 17-years-old, Joel Pedigo enlisted in the
10United States Navy; during the Korean War, he served on the
11U.S.S. Roanoke; and
 
12    WHEREAS, After his service, Joel Pedigo attended Kent
13State University, the University of Cincinnati, and Ohio State
14University; ultimately, he obtained a master's degree in
15chemistry; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Over the course of his career as a chemist, Joel
17Pedigo was awarded two patents; he also owned Water
18Maintenance Services in Willowbrook for 30 years; he ended his
19career managing Meredith Culligan Water in Forest Park; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Joel Pedigo was a handball, motorcycle, and

1piloting hobbyist; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Joel Pedigo's favorite dessert was the "Soakie";
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, One of Joel Pedigo's mottos was that "…[Y]ou
5never give up on family."; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Joel Pedigo is survived by his children, Brian
7(Cristina), Tekla (Patrick Barrick), Steve, Tony, and David
8(Brandi Medina); his former wife, Helen Kossler; and his 11
9grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Joel B. Pedigo and extend our sincere condolences to his
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Joel Pedigo as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
