SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The process of manufacturing includes the
3mechanical, physical, or chemical transformation of materials,
4substances, or components into new products and involves
5establishments such as plants, factories, and mills; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The definition of manufacturing extends to
7establishments that transform materials into new products
8engaged in distribution to the general public such as
9bakeries, candy stores, and tailors; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The manufacturing industry has provided many
11contributions to the State and nation; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The manufacturing sector employs 550,000 workers
13across the State of Illinois and produces $108 billion in
14total output; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The manufacturing sector comprises approximately
1678% of total production in the United States; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Manufacturing is an ever-evolving sector that
18affects the wellness of any economy; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Illinois manufacturers have played a significant

1role in empowering Illinois communities through the production
2of medical supplies since the inception of COVID-19, and they
3continue to provide support to the State and larger national
4network; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has made investments to
6bolster the manufacturing industry and prepare communities for
7its future growth under Governor Pritzker; and
 
8    WHEREAS, We are now entering the fourth industrial
9revolution, where new discoveries in artificial intelligence,
10robotics, technology, and genetics will result in dramatic
11changes to how we live and work; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Manufacturing careers in the 21st century will
13also feature clean energy; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Illinois should continue to provide the tools and
15skills that our diverse workforce will need to succeed in the
16new jobs of the future; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Manufacturing must become a rewarding and
18attractive career for younger workers, non-traditional
19students, and previously underrepresented groups; and
 
20    WHEREAS, National Manufacturing Month brings much needed

1awareness to the challenges the industry faces by encouraging
2manufacturers and organizations to address current
3shortcomings and prepare for its development; and
 
4    WHEREAS, National Manufacturing Month acknowledges and
5thanks the work of manufacturers and the individuals that
6operate them; and
 
7    WHEREAS, A number of states observe Manufacturing Day
8throughout the month of October, including California, New
9York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Ohio, some of the
10largest manufacturing states in the country; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare October
132021 as "Manufacturing Month" in the State of Illinois; and be
14it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the Illinois Manufacturers' Association as a
17symbol of our respect and esteem.
