SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Gerald L. "Gary" "Jerry" Porter of
4Rock Island, who passed away on September 18, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gerald Porter was born to James Porter and Gladys
6(McCorkle) Mohn in Rock Island on July 25, 1944; he graduated
7from Rock Island High School in 1963; he served in the U.S.
8Army in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968; he married Eva "Punkin"
9Porter in Davenport on July 24, 1965, and she preceded him in
10death on August 28, 2021; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Gerald Porter retired from the Alcoa Corporation
12after 41 years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Gerald Porter was a devoted member of the Vietnam
14Veterans of America Chapter 669 and the Mexican-American
15Veterans Association; he was also a member of United
16Steelworkers and the Steelworkers Organization of Active
17Retirees (SOAR); he was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan; he
18enjoyed going to car shows and working outdoors; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Gerald Porter was known for offering a helping
20hand to anyone in need; he will be missed; and

1    WHEREAS, Gerald Porter was preceded in death by his wife
2of 56 years; his parents; and his brother, Donald Porter; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Gerald Porter is survived by his daughter,
4Cinnamon (Patrick) Moore; his son, Troy Porter; his sisters,
5Jaqueline McGuire and Susan DePaepe; his brother, Charles
6(Donna) Porter; his several nieces and nephews; and his
7granddog, Vegas "The Boo"; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Gerald L. "Gary" "Jerry" Porter and extend our sincere
11condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
12him; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Gerald Porter as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
