SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Alphonso P. "Al" Collins Jr. of East
4Moline, who passed away on August 28, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Al Collins was born to Alphonso and Mattie
6(Pennington) Collins Sr. in Moline on September 19, 1938; he
7married Sharon Murphy in Chicago on August 1, 1967; he
8attended Black Hawk College and Augustana College; he served
9in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Cold War; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Al Collins worked as a foreman for International
11Harvester for 47 years; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Al Collins was a member of Bethany Baptist
13Church, where he served in several capacities and most
14recently assisted the food bank; he enjoyed being outdoors and
15took great pride in taking care of his yard; he loved spending
16time with his family; he also enjoyed traveling, meeting new
17people, and telling stories with lifelong friends; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Al Collins was preceded in death by his parents
19and his brother, Marion Collins; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Al Collins is survived by his wife, Sharon

1Collins; his children, Alphonso P. Collins III and Elizabeth
2(Joe) Greenwald; his grandchildren, Elise, Naomi, Nina, and
3Chris; his brothers, Mervyn (Carol) Collins, Jim (Karen)
4Collins, and Dean Davis; his sister-in-law, Cathy Collins; his
5many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his special friend,
6Melvin Rummels; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Alphonso P. "Al" Collins Jr. and extend our sincere
10condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
11him; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Al Collins as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
