SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of James "Jim" Ribbeck of Rock Island,
4who passed away on July 28, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Ribbeck was born in Sumner, Iowa to Erwin and
6Laura (Niemann) Ribbeck on October 15, 1930; he married Joan
7Reuter in Sumner on August 30, 1953; he received his Bachelor
8of Arts from the University of Northern Iowa; he earned his
9Master of Arts and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa; he served
10in the U.S. Army during the Korean War; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Jim Ribbeck was the recipient of the Gabel
12Memorial Award for outstanding research completed in Aurora
13public schools in 1964; after working in the public school
14system in Aurora, he joined the faculty at Augustana College
15as Dean of Students; later in his career, he became the
16Personnel Director/Director of Business Affairs at Augustana
17College; he retired after 32 years of service in 1996; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jim Ribbeck served in various leadership
19positions, including with the Easter Seals Foundation
20(Children's Therapy Center), the Northern Illinois Synod of
21the ELCA, and Trinity Lutheran Church; he was deeply committed
22to his faith and devoted to his church family, and he was

1particularly passionate about Global Mission; he enjoyed
2fishing, photography, singing, traveling, and attending
3Augustana College football and basketball games; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Jim Ribbeck was preceded in death by his parents;
5his brother and sister-in-law; his infant twin sister; and his
6son, Doug; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Jim Ribbeck is survived by his wife of 68 years,
8Joan; his son, Tom (Cindy); his daughter, Karen (Paul Neder);
9his son Doug's family, Carole, Josh, Zachary Howe, and their
10families; and his grandchildren, Mila (Brittney), Mark, and
11Cole; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14James "Jim" Ribbeck and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Jim Ribbeck as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
