SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Aaron Odom, who passed away on June
415, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Aaron Odom was born in Tunica, Mississippi to
6Leon and Ellen Odom on June 26, 1954; as a child, he was known
7for his exceptional academic aptitude and excelled in both
8math and science; he attended Penn Elementary School and
9Farragut High School; he was a star athlete throughout his
10high school and college careers; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Aaron Odom was called into the ministry in the
12late 1980s; he was ordained as an elder under the leadership of
13the late Bishop William Haven Bonner of the Illinois Sixth
14Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction in 2004; he was concerned and
15passionate about sharing the gospel; he was known for always
16offering an immediate prayer when requested and for being an
17eloquent orator; as an associate minister, he consistently
18taught Bible study and preached Sunday morning service at The
19Potter's House Christian Church; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Aaron Odom was known for his sense of humor,
21quick wit, wisdom, intellect, faith, and love for his family;
22he was passionate about sports throughout his life, and he

1coached his children and grandchildren in their athletic
2endeavors; he facilitated family Bible studies and prayer
3circles on a regular basis; he called his family every day to
4check in, pray, and offer support, comfort, mentorship, and
5motivation; he was devoted to building a future for his
6family; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Aaron Odom was preceded in death by his mother,
8Ellen Odom, and his granddaughter, Abigail Davis; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Aaron Odom is survived by his father, Leon (Lucy)
10Odom; his sisters, Katherine (Jerry) Newsome and Lendora
11Daniels; his lifelong companion, Sharon (Jones) Odom; his
12daughters, Tamela Odom, Michelle Odom, Karen Odom, and
13Laquania Odom-Davis (Peter); his sons, Ivan Odom and Kyle
14Odom; his grandchildren, Kimani Mobley, Joshua Benford,
15Brielle Simone Odom, Peter Davis Jr., and Alexis Davis; and a
16host of relatives, friends, and church family; therefore, be
17it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Aaron Odom and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
21friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
