SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Marcel C. Durot, who passed away on
4October 7, 2020 at the age of 91; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marcel Durot was born in Boston, Massachusetts on
6September 8, 1929; he was raised in Waban, Massachusetts; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Marcel Durot earned a bachelor's degree from
8Dartmouth College, a Master of Business Administration from
9the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration, and a Juris
10Doctor degree from Boston College Law School; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Marcel Durot served active duty in the Navy for
12two years aboard the USS Hopper Island; afterward, he began
13working for the Gillette Safety Razor Company; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Marcel Durot's career at Gillette spanned
15multiple subsidiaries and countries; his titles included
16controller treasurer, president-director general, corporate
17vice president, and president; at the Paper Mate Company, he
18helped drive the success of the Flair Pen; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Marcel Durot left Gillette in 1977, spent three
20years working with Mattel, and then joined G.D. Searle &

1Company in Chicago, where he became part of the launch of Equal
2tabletop sweetener; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Marcel Durot started his own international
4consulting business in 1985; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marcel Durot was a member of the Young Presidents
6Organization and president of the National Paraplegia
7Foundation; in 1980, he helped successfully lobby the United
8Nations to declare 1981 as the Year of Disabled Persons; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Marcel Durot served on the boards of the
10Hurricane Island Outward Bound School, the Minnesota Outward
11Bound School, and the National Outward Bound organization; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Marcel Durot is survived by his wife, Charlotte
13Ann Durot; his children, G. Georges Durot II (Ann), Jennifer
14C. Durot, Michael M. Durot (Anne), Robert C. Durot (Kamy), and
15Andrew Durot; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two
16stepdaughters, Paige Soule (Ed Varga) and Christa Desir
17(Julio); and five step-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Marcel C. Durot and extend our sincere condolences to his
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
