SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Abbie C. (Hoffman) Weisberg, who
4passed away on April 26, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Abbie Weisberg was born on March 10, 1964; she
6earned her master's degree in Not for Profit Management from
7the Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership in
8Chicago; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Abbie Weisberg was the retired CEO of Keshet, an
10organization that serves over 1,000 people with disabilities
11in the Chicago area while consulting with dozens of social
12service agencies around the country; she worked with Keshet
13for over 30 years and previously served the organization as a
14teacher, program director, and executive director; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Abbie Weisberg was the founder of I Belong, a
16nonprofit organization dedicated to employing people with
17intellectual/developmental disabilities (i/dd) while
18embracing the Jewish values of community, kindness,
19responsibility, respect, and tikkun olam (repairing the
20world); and
 
21    WHEREAS, Abbie Weisberg was an internationally recognized

1speaker and expert on disabilities and inclusion; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Abbie Weisberg was a former board member of
3Moishe House; she was noted as a Woman to Watch by Jewish Women
4International in 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Abbie Weisberg was the wife of Dr. Mitchell
6Weisberg; the mother of Zoie (Josh) Berman, Shayna Weisberg,
7and Sophia (Elan) Yudkowsky; the grandmother of Archie Jasper
8Berman; and the sister of Michael (Susan) Hoffman, Laurie
9(Lonnie) Ungerhoff, and Debbie (Randall) Gelb; therefore, be
10it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Abbie C. (Hoffman) Weisberg and extend our sincere condolences
14to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
15it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Abbie Weisberg as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
