SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2310/2310-424.5 new

    Amends the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Requires the Department of Public Health to create within the Office of Health Promotion the Division of Men's Health. Provides that the Division shall concentrate on raising awareness of specified health issues specific to men. Provides that the Division shall complete an annual assessment in collaboration with the schools of public health in Illinois of the status of men's health and recommend policy developments to address those needs and identify the services needed. Requires the Division to review the assessment and make recommendations to the General Assembly.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and
5Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
6amended by adding Section 2310-424.5 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2310/2310-424.5 new)
8    Sec. 2310-424.5. Men's Health Division.
9    (a) The Department of Public Health shall create within
10the Office of Health Promotion the Division of Men's Health.
11    (b) The Division of Men's Health shall concentrate on
12raising awareness of health issues specific to men, including,
13but not limited to, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, heart
14disease, smoking cessation, respiratory illness, unintentional
15injuries, health equity, and cultural competency.
16    Additionally, the Department shall work with mental health
17providers to raise awareness of the mental health of men and
18address developmental issues of boys, violence prevention,
19self-esteem, and communication.
20    (c) The Division shall complete an annual assessment in
21collaboration with the schools of public health in Illinois of
22the status of men's health and recommend policy developments
23to address those needs and identify the services needed. The
