SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/14-8.02i new

    Amends the Children with Disabilities Article of the School Code. Beginning with the 2023-2024 school year, requires a school district to provide informational material about the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) account program to the parent or guardian of a student at the student's annual individualized education program review meeting. Requires the Office of the State Treasurer to prepare and deliver the informational material to the State Board of Education, and provides that the State Board of Education shall distribute the informational material to school districts. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
514-8.02i as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/14-8.02i new)
7    Sec. 14-8.02i. ABLE account program information. Beginning
8with the 2023-2024 school year, a school district shall
9provide informational material about the Achieving a Better
10Life Experience (ABLE) account program established under
11Section 16.6 of the State Treasurer Act to the parent or
12guardian of a student at the student's annual individualized
13education program (IEP) review meeting, whether the annual
14review meeting is held in person, convened remotely, or
15convened in any other manner. The Office of the State
16Treasurer shall prepare and deliver the informational material
17to the State Board of Education, and the State Board of
18Education shall distribute the informational material to
19school districts.
20    A school may transmit the informational material to a
21parent or guardian in the same manner as other documents and
22information related to an IEP meeting are provided to the
23parent or guardian.

1    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
2becoming law.
